19 Mar Back Yourself
I have mentioned this before and I’m sure you can all relate the world of horses can bring out some opinionated people. The truth is, it’s not just the horsey world, it’s everywhere. So even though it is there at every turn, the key is to find your own path and one thing we should never ever do is let what someone else thinks (or your idea of what you think someone else thinks!) hold us back from seeking our goals.
Too often I see talented people with so much to give settle for nothing because they are scared of what others may or may not think. Now I am certainly no better and I definitely have those negative thoughts running through my head. However, over the period of my life and especially since running my own business over the last 15 years, including an online business today I have got better and better at putting them to the side and carrying on. Yes, 100% those thoughts always turn up; doubt will always be there, worry will always turn up and fear and anxiety go hand and hand with stepping outside my comfort zone all the time. The difference is it’s as if they are just there now and I don’t buy into them. Why? Because my desire to achieve my goals is far more important to me.
So my simple advice for you today is if you know you want more and you have goals to be better, the key is to find a big reason why. To create some goals and put steps in place to help you achieve them. Ask yourself where do you want to be in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years? Now start to visualize your days in 5 years. If your competing dressage and your goal is Grandprix, picture your path to get there. What needs to happen, who do you need to be, to have what you want to have? Then the only thing stopping you is doing what you need to do!
This step of creating a path that’s right for you requires you putting some time aside to make a plan, to get really specific and detailed. The more detailed you are down to the day to day activities, the more you can back yourself when doubt and fear kick in and the more you can make plans when excuses kick in. Its when you have that path that you can silence the negativity and you can let go of the worry and fear of what someone else thinks. A clear path, with consistent action, creates confidence in oneself. It creates a sense of self-belief that helps you silence your inner critic and carry on.
So next time you notice you are slipping into this negativity and not progressing, start putting pen to paper and write down your goals. Create an action plan and start doing it.
Be your number one supporter and surround yourself with those who will help you get to where you want to be!

“What someone else thinks of you is none of your business”
