Keeping it simple
Too often we over-complicate exercise, we make it too hard, thinking we have to go to a gym, wear the right clothing, do it for an hour, and be exhausted on the other side of the session.
We tend to put it off because we have this idea of what exercise 'should' be like.
My philosophy is about doing exercise movement that allows you to be a better rider in the saddle, and improves your long term health and body function so that you can continue to ride your horse and never letting your body hold you back from doing what you love.
Keeping it achievable
We have all had an injury or a niggle at some point that has stopped us from riding as much as we would like. We want to prevent this from occurring.
Owning and caring for horses is challenging enough, with all the chores we need to do, it can get exhausting. We want to conserve our energy off the horse, making sure the exercises we do is helping our riding, and enhancing our performance in the saddle.
When it comes to installing exercise movement habits, I like the concept of "setting yourself up for success". Not making it too long, not making it exhaustive, keeping it simple, achievable, and most importantly, sustainable!
Keeping it sustainable
These sessions are only 5 minutes. Knowing this, you are more likely to show up to do the session knowing it's a low time commitment. And from there, anything more than that is a bonus. doing just 5 minutes is a win, doing 5 minutes is success.
It's not about the start, or the finish, it's about learning to love the process, the journey, the practice, the doing. If we make it too hard or complicated, we will struggle to maintain the consistency. But if we can make it sustainable, we can stick to it long-term, we can stay on the path.
That's why over the next 21 days, I want to share with you a 5 minute routine with you each day, designed to help your riding, but most importantly, to help kickstart your exercise journey.
Only 5 minutes for 21 days. There are no excuses, it's simple, it's achievable, and it's sustainable. It will instil the daily habit of doing exercise movement off the horse, that is going to help you on the horse.
The internet is full of noise, this will peel away all of that, giving you the essence of what is important to focus on that will make a difference to your riding and your life.

21 Video Sessions
This 5 Minute Challenge program consists of 21 daily videos. Simply press Play on the video, and I will guide you through the session.
Each session has a specific focus that I will introduce you to. It's all based off our Dressage Rider Training System that combines the 4 elements of Suppleness, Stability, Stamina, and Mindset, in order to create coalescence, or harmony, with your horse.
How to play the videos...
1. Via our Website
You can play the videos using your smartphone, tablet, laptop or TV.
Simply push play, and stream the video the same as you would a Youtube video.
2. Via our Mobile App
iPhone/iPad Users - You can also install our mobile app for iOS from the App Store.
Android Users - You can install our mobile app from the Play Store.
We will give you these details on how to install the app and login upon registration.
Have limited internet?
A key functionality of the app is the ability to save videos to your device for offline playback. This is a great option if you have limited internet connectivity. Simply save the video once, and it will play offline thereafter.
No additional equipment is required to do this program.
Optional is a yoga mat for comfort.
In some sessions you will use some books, drink bottles, whatever you can find handy around your home for some extra weight.
My name is Nicola Smith, and I've dedicated the majority of my life so far to being a rider and fitness trainer with Dressage Rider Training (DRT).
I am hugely passionate about horses and riding, ever since I was a young girl with my pony 'Smokey' (pic below).
My lifetime of riding, combined with my knowledge and 20+ years experience in Exercise Prescription and Fitness Instruction, gives me a deep understanding of the requirements a rider needs in the saddle.

How do I access the program?
When purchasing you will receive login details to our website that contains the program. Each day you will receive an email with a link to the session to be done for that day.
You will also be able to install our mobile app to access the program on your iPhone, iPad, or Android Phone/Tablet.
On the website or mobile app, you can push play and stream the video sessions, just like a youtube video.
Can I download the sessions?
No, this program you are unable to download at this time.
Are the workouts live?
No, the workouts are not live, you can do each session on-demand when it works best for you.
How long are the sessions?
Each daily session is 5 minutes long. You are welcome to repeat it, or supplement it with a previous session if you want to do longer than this.
Can I do this if I've had a hip or knee replacement?
Yes absolutely! This program most certainly caters to you if you have had hip or knee replacements. There are options to manage this, and you can ask us for help at any time if you find there is something you cannot do. There is always an alternative!
Can I repeat sessions & go at my own pace?
Yes absolutely. You will have 6 months access to the program on our website and mobile app, so you can repeat the program as many times as you like within this timeframe. At the end of this access time, we will give you the option to continue with membership if you choose.
How long do I have access to the program for?
You will have 6 months of access to the program on our website and mobile app, giving you plenty of time to complete it, and repeat it. At the end of this time we will give you options to continue with membership if you choose. You can also download the program to keep.
Do you provide support & guidance?
Absolutely! I am here to help you every step of the way. We also have a fantastic community of past and current participants both on our website and private Facebook Group. They provide motivation, encouragement and support to each other. Because everyone is on the same journey and shares the same passion. You will love it!
Will this program be too much for me?
It is highly unlikely. Average age of participants is 55, with 20% being age 60+, and 70 year olds complete the program successfully. I am very conscious of the needs of this older demographic. Every session has options to make it easier if needed, and if there is something you cannot do, you can just let me know and we can find an alternative for you to do. As there is always another option!
Do I need any equipment?
No additional equipment is required to do this program. Optional is a yoga mat for comfort. In some sessions you will use a chair, couch, towel, wall... these are all things you will have in your own home.
Will I be fit enough to do this program?
Absolutely! The idea of this program is to kickstart your exercise and fitness journey from doing nothing. It's completely achievable for all fitness levels, and is catered to the complete beginner.
All you are committing to is 5 minutes per day, for 21 days. If you can give yourself this gift, you will be rewarded in ways you may not realise right now, but you will by the end of the program.
